Imagination has announced that it will open up its CPU architecture to universities by releasing a fully open MIPS CPU to academic institutions worldwide for free.
University professors, students, researchers and others members of the academic community will be able to see the actual RTL and study the inner workings of this RISC processor.
Furthermore, this CPU has all the features (MMU, cache controllers, debug interfaces, etc.) required to run a full blown operating system (e.g. Linux).
